In 1899, an international congress of physicians named Summerville one of the two best places on earth to recover from lung and throat trouble — the pine-scented, sandy-soil air doing the work. The town's official seal still reads Sacra Pinus Esto: the pine is sacred. Long before anyone called it wellness, Flowertown was already a place people came to breathe easier.
